English For Exams
We offer intensive English Language courses for learners who wish to take Oxford or Cambridge English language exams and also for students applying to study Irish university courses. The class sizes are small with 6 students or less in each class. The course comprises 18 hours of small group classes and two hours of one to one per week. Following a placement test, a curriculum will be designed, so that students will have covered all areas of study necessary to pass exams, including exam practise sessions.
The location of the Connemara School of Language and Cultural Studies in Letterfrack provides a perfect place for English language learners to learn, study and integrate into Irish culture. The school, which is located in one of the large Heatherhill cottages, is an oasis of tranquility and learning, in a very beautiful setting. The village of Letterfrack is picturesque and lively, it has a vibrant music and arts scene, a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants, and beautiful scenery. The village is busy throughout the year as it is the base for the Letterfrack campus of the Furniture College , a third level college which is part of the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology. Over two hundred students a year study full time undergraduate and post-graduate courses in Letterfrack. Some classes from the Connemara School of Language and Cultural Studies are held at the G.M.I.T campus in Letterfrack.
Letterfack is also home to the Connemara National Park which is the starting point for hillwalking through the Twelve Bens mountain range, attracting 250,000 visitors a year. Letterfrack is a costal village, with a working pier, where boat and fishing trips can be arranged with the local fishermen.
There are a range of accommodation options available including host family, shared accommodation at Heatherhill Cottages and luxury accommodation at Atlantic Vista. All accommodation is carefully chosen and of a very high standard. Meals and a cleaning service are available as requested by language learners.
Students on the English for Exams course can choose from an extensive range of extra-curricular activities. Connemara is well known as the adventure capital of Ireland and therfore there are lots of activities available close to letterfrack, including; surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing, horse riding, climbing, hillwalking, gorge walking, and scuba diving. More leisurely activities such as, golf, fly fishing , angling, cooking, playing music, dancing, yoga, painting and many more can also arranged as requested by individual students.
